  2.  Identify additional sustainable practices that require little or no taxpayer dollars, or better yet, saves money
  3.  Bring awareness to residents to become more aware of sustainable practices.
  4.  Hold environmental educational sessions on topics relevant to our community.

Looking for tips to decrease your environmental footprint?

Reduce plastic use -start small. For example, you can replace your deodorant bars with ones that are plastic free.

  • When replacing your heating and air conditioning unit, ask for heat pumps. Gas furnaces are typically 95% efficient. But a heat pump is 200% to 400% efficient. Basically, for each unit of energy, you get 2-4 units of heat.
  • Become carbon neutral -either by replacing your oil/gas appliances with electric ones when they break, or you do home improvements (the electrical grid keeps getting cleaner each year) or by offsetting your carbon footprint by purchasing carbon offsets.
  • When replacing your car, purchase an electric car. Unlike an internal combustion car where it continues creating carbon emissions for the life of the car, the carbon footprint of an EV stops after it is manufactured. The initial carbon footprint is greater for an EV because of the battery, but the crossover is around 1 year of usage. After that, electric cars are net negative on the carbon footprint.
  • When looking for new job opportunities, look for companies that have strong carbon neutrality goals, or even better, companies that have already achieved carbon neutrality.
