Bird and Bat Box Observations

Bats play an essential role in pest control, pollinating plants and dispersing seeds. Bat houses are particularly helpful in providing alternative roosting habitat for bats.  Installing bat houses can provide a safe environment for bats, while protecting your yard from pest insects, like mosquitoes, moths, and beetles.

The location of our box gets approximately 6 hours of sunlight and faces Southwest.  We positioned the box next to the stream at Windy Acres and it is installed 15 feet high.

We will be monitoring the house every month and providing updates.  Bats usually come out before it is completely dark.

Birdhouses serve many purposes. They help the environment by creating an ecosystem in your yard. They provide shelter for bird families, and then the birds get rid of weeds and insects. They can sometimes pollinate flowers. Windy Acres has 4 bird boxes positioned in a meadow.

We chose this location because Bluebirds prefer large expanses of grass with a clear flight path. Our boxes are mounted 6 feet high. They are also 50 feet away from a tree line which avoids competition with house wrens. The heavily wooded area also serves as protection. Additionally, the openings are facing away from prevailing winds.

We will be observing each box and updating you as things progress.
